AlexHost review: Moldovan hosting and DMCA complaints

alexhost.com

AlexHost is a Moldovan host founded in 2008 that runs its own data center in a former air raid shelter in Chisinau. VPS plans start at €6 a month and dedicated servers at €26, and the company says it shares nothing about its clients without a conviction and an official request from Moldovan law enforcement.

Our take on AlexHost

AlexHost suits a legal adult site that wants cheap hosting outside the US and the EU and can live with older entry-level hardware. A Moldovan host makes takedown requests and identity requests from abroad slower and more expensive to push through.

It is a weaker fit for a tube on the €6 plan, whose port is shared and capped well below a gigabit, and no fit at all for content that is illegal in Moldova, where a local court order is enough.

AlexHost VPS pricing and the €6 catch

The €6 U1 plan, with 1 vCore, 1.5 GB of DDR4 and 10 GB of NVMe, is only sold in Moldova and runs on a shared 100 Mbps port. Pick any other location and the range starts at U2: €10 a month for 2 vCores, 4 GB and 40 GB, on a 1 Gbps port. In Moldova itself, the Platinum P1 plan gets you 1 Gbps for €8 a month, with 1 vCore, 2 GB and 20 GB. A dedicated IPv4 and full root access are included on every plan.

  • U1: €6, Moldova only, 100 Mbps.
  • U2: €10, 100 Mbps in Moldova, 1 Gbps elsewhere.
  • U4: €16 for 4 vCores, 8 GB and 80 GB, same port split.

VPS locations are Moldova, the Netherlands, Sweden, Bulgaria, Switzerland, France, England, Romania and the US. A US-based reader who wants low latency at home can order the same U2 in the US, but the server then sits outside Moldova. For video, the 1 Gbps port matters far more than the extra RAM.

How AlexHost handles DMCA notices and abuse reports

AlexHost will not release information about a client without a conviction and an official request from law enforcement in the Republic of Moldova. The abuse page warns complainants up front that mail from anyone without real authority in a country is treated as spam, that nobody is guilty until a court says so, and that the client may be told about the complaint.

A structured form is still there, with abuse type, IP address, links and attachments. Some topics are fast-tracked, including revenge porn, child grooming, war propaganda and incitement to terrorism. The same page also says it does not stand in the way of justified complaints from copyright holders. For an adult site hit by a US-style DMCA notice, the practical effect is time: the complainant has to go through Moldovan channels.

Dedicated servers: 2013 chips at the bottom, Xeon DDR4 higher up

The cheapest five machines use 2013 and 2014 processors with DDR3: Pentium G3220 at €26 a month, Core i3-4130 at €35, Core i5-4570 at €39, Xeon E5-2620 at €55 and Core i7-4770 at €63. DDR4 starts with the Xeon E5-2690 v3 at €90, followed by the Xeon E5-2620 v3 at €120, a dual Xeon E5-2690 v4 at €180 with up to 512 GB of RAM, and a Core i9-10920X at €192.77.

Dedicated servers are offered in Moldova, Bulgaria and England with a shared 1 Gbps port, one IPv4 and traffic listed as unlimited, plus a separate 10 Gbps line. In a test HostAdvice published in September 2026, the €180 dual Xeon on a shared 1 Gbps port measured about 286 Mbps, the order form defaulted to RAID 0 with no redundancy, and card payments carried a 4% fee. AlexHost's own home page says its hardware was last updated in 2018. Shared, WordPress and LiteSpeed hosting, GPU servers, colocation, a VPN, domains and SSL round out the catalog, and reselling is allowed as long as the account holder answers for their own clients.

The Chisinau data center

AlexHost's data center sits in an air raid shelter several meters underground on the site of a former arms factory. It opened in 2010 with 1.6 MW of power, targets 99.99% uptime, and the footer lists ISO/IEC 27001:2023 and ISO 9001:2015.

Network figures differ on the same home page: 231 Gbps of capacity and 3.5 Tbps of DDoS protection in one block, 20 Gbps and 500 Gbps in the sales copy. Ask support in writing which figure applies to your plan before you rely on the DDoS protection.

AlexHost refunds, unpaid balances and the $50,000 cap

The 30-day money-back guarantee covers first-time accounts only, never orders placed with a promo code, and a dedicated server or colocation refund keeps €5 for setup plus 30% of the amount paid. Domains, SSL, VPN and cPanel or Plesk licenses are not refunded, and a refund to bitcoin needs at least $100.

A zero balance suspends the service at once, and it comes back within 24 hours of proof of payment. Shared hosting data is kept for forty days. The agreement renews every calendar year unless you give written notice thirty days before year end.

One clause matters for anyone outside Moldova. For a non-resident client, the agreement ends automatically once total payments reach $50,000, unless a transaction passport under Moldovan currency rules is in place.

Is AlexHost reliable?

AlexHost is an established business, running its own data center since 2010, but its customer ratings are mixed at best: 1.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 165 reviews, 3.8 out of 5 on HostAdvice, mixing expert scores and 69 reviews, and 8.4 out of 10 on WHTop from 160. On Trustpilot, the ten most recent reviews, from August to October 2026, are almost all one star.

Two groups post there. Customers describe slow or unstable networking and VPS plans cut off after a phishing report, with no refund and no access to data. Rights holders say copyright complaints went unanswered for more than a month. Backups kept outside AlexHost and a first month paid on its own limit the damage of a cutoff.

AlexHost strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • No client data released without a Moldovan conviction and official request.
  • VPS from €6, with a dedicated IPv4 and root access.
  • Own data center in Chisinau since 2010.
  • 20+ payment methods, crypto included.

Limitations

  • The €6 VPS is Moldova-only on a shared 100 Mbps port.
  • Entry dedicated servers on DDR3 and 2013 processors.
  • Network figures that disagree on the same page.
  • One refund per customer, minus 30% on dedicated.
  • Automatic termination at $50,000 for foreign clients.
  • A 1.8 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot.

AlexHost vs AbeloHost and MojoHost

MojoHost rents servers from $39 a month with 324 TB of transfer included, which suits a tube that burns bandwidth, though it is a US company. AbeloHost in Amsterdam starts at €9.99 for a VPS with unmetered traffic and server administration included. AlexHost is the cheapest of the three, with its own data center in Moldova.
