Adult Cloud Storage

Adult cloud storage keeps the videos, photos and backups of an adult website with a provider whose terms accept that content in writing. Consumer cloud drives ban the distribution of pornography and can close the whole account, which rules them out as soon as a catalog is served online. The providers on this page differ by what you rent, from S3-compatible object storage to servers packed with disks, by how they bill egress and by backup features such as object lock.

Consumer cloud drives and adult content

Mainstream cloud drives prohibit distributing pornography from their accounts. Their rules mostly target sharing: distributing sexually explicit material, displaying it publicly or sending it through a link. One of the best known also forbids storing anything deemed indecent, a word its terms leave undefined. When the drive belongs to an operating system or email account, the stated penalty goes as far as closing the account, together with the email, files and balances tied to it.

That rules these drives out for serving an adult site. A public file link, a video embedded in a page or a folder feeding a tube is exactly the use the terms forbid, and closure can happen at once. These services also scan stored files automatically for child sexual abuse imagery. Parents have already lost their accounts after a false match, and the appeal did not bring them back.

Adult cloud storage starts with terms that accept adult content in writing. Storj, for instance, lists adult content among the accepted uses of its object storage and sets specific requirements for customers in the industry. With a hosting company, the permission sits in the acceptable use policy, and it has to cover storage as well: some hosts accept adult websites yet forbid using a shared hosting account as a media file store.

For a personal collection or a creator’s working files, client-side encryption brings privacy. Files are encrypted on the computer before upload, and the provider never holds the key. The terms of use still apply to encrypted files.

Object storage, block storage, storage servers and sync drives

A sync drive mirrors a folder from your computer to the provider and keeps it identical across devices. It is built for one person or a small team, and it fits a website badly: files leave through share links, with no cache and no interface a script can call.

Object storage keeps files in buckets and exposes them through an API. S3-compatible means the service speaks the same interface as Amazon S3, so a tube script, a CMS, a CDN or a backup tool plugs in without custom code. Capacity has no practical ceiling and billing follows usage. Most paysite videos, image galleries and offsite backups end up there, and several adult-friendly hosts sell it next to their servers under the same acceptable use policy.

Block storage is a virtual disk attached to a VPS or cloud server. It adds space to one machine without moving to a bigger plan, and only that machine can read it.

A storage server is a dedicated server loaded with drives, rented by the month with a traffic allowance. It suits a tube that streams its own videos, or a large archive you want under your own administration. Worldstream rents them out of data centres it owns in the Netherlands. Setup, drive monitoring and RAID rebuilds fall on the customer. RAID survives a failed drive, while a deletion or ransomware hits the array like the rest of the server, which is why the backup lives elsewhere.

Adult sites often mix formats: videos in object storage behind a CDN, the site and its database on a VPS, and backups with another provider. A high-traffic tube may lean toward a storage server, where bundled traffic can cost less than egress billed per gigabyte.

What drives the price of storing a video catalog

Object storage pricing adds up the volume stored each month and egress, the data downloaded out of the bucket. For an adult site, egress often outweighs storage: every play of a video served straight from the bucket is billed, while the file itself is paid for once a month. Policies vary widely between providers. Storj bills egress at the same rate as storage, and Psychz Networks does not bill it at all, within fair use.

Smaller charges pile up: a monthly minimum invoice, a minimum storage duration that bills a file deleted early as if it had stayed, per-request fees at some providers, and higher rates for faster or more redundant storage tiers. The minimum duration hurts most on a catalog that replaces files often, such as a tube that re-encodes its videos.

A CDN in front of the bucket cuts egress. It caches the most watched videos and only fetches files missing from its cache, so the bucket serves a small share of the plays. The CDN brings its own bill, also based on delivered volume.

A storage server follows another logic: a fixed monthly rent, a traffic allowance and a port speed. The bill stays flat while the site stays under the allowance. Past it, the host either charges overage or throttles the port. Administration time belongs in the real cost.

Free cloud storage mostly comes from consumer services, with the rules covered above. On the object storage side, free trials are capped in size and duration and serve to test a script’s S3 compatibility before moving a catalog. Lifetime plans, paid once, depend entirely on the company that sold them staying in business.

Backing up an adult website: copies, object lock and restores

An adult website backup copies the videos, images, database and server configuration, then keeps those copies out of reach of whatever happens to the site. The classic rule calls for the original, a copy on different media and a copy offsite. For an adult site, offsite means another provider and another account. A suspension over a complaint, an unpaid invoice or a suspected terms violation freezes the server and every copy stored under the same account at once, and some contracts allow files to be deleted during the outage.

The database matters as much as the videos. It ties each file to its page, titles, categories and member accounts, and a catalog restored without it has to be republished by hand. It changes with every upload, so it gets backed up more often than the media.

Object lock blocks any change or deletion of a file version for a chosen retention period. In compliance mode, not even the account owner can erase the backup before the date, and neither can an attacker holding stolen access keys. Combined with versioning, which keeps earlier versions of overwritten files, it protects against ransomware and human error alike. Backups sent to a third party also benefit from client-side encryption, with the key kept away from the provider.

A backup is proven by restoring it. Regularly restoring a sample of files and the database on a test machine shows the copies are readable and gives the real time needed to bring the site back. That time depends on the volume to pull back and on the storage’s download speed. With a provider that bills egress, a full restore costs the egress on the whole catalog.

A storage provider can also raise prices, retire a plan or shut down. Copies held by unrelated companies cover that risk, and an S3-compatible backup tool moves from one to the other without rewriting scripts.
