bunny.net review: pay-per-GB video delivery for adult sites

bunny.net

bunny.net is a Slovenian CDN billed by usage from $1 a month. Delivery costs $0.01 per GB in Europe and North America on its standard network and $0.005 on its volume network, and video encoding is free.

Our verdict on bunny.net

bunny.net is a strong pick for moving a tube's or paysite's video off its own server: you pay per gigabyte served, encoding costs nothing, and a small site gets by on a few dollars a month. It does not replace your web host. The site itself still runs elsewhere.

Two kinds of operator should read the rules first. Cam sites, because live streaming needs written approval. Large publishers, because everything is prepaid and non-refundable and the terms allow account termination without notice.

When bunny.net can close your account

Two vague clauses sit in the acceptable use policy. bunny.net can disable an account without a refund if it finds "inappropriate material", a term it never defines, and its list of illegal uses ends with "any other un-sociable material".

Live streaming of short events needs prior written consent, and accounts streaming live without approval can be terminated. A cam site should get that approval before pointing its streams at bunny.net.

bunny.net pricing by region and network

On the standard network, bunny.net charges by the visitor's region: $0.01 per GB in Europe and North America, $0.03 in Asia and Oceania, $0.045 in South America and $0.06 in the Middle East and Africa. A site with most of its audience in India pays three times the US rate, and one with a Brazilian audience four and a half times.

The volume network uses one global rate: $0.005 per GB for the first 500 TB, $0.004 up to 1 PB and $0.002 up to 2 PB. It runs on 10 points of presence instead of 119: Frankfurt, Paris, São Paulo, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. There is no volume PoP in India: the nearest are Singapore and Hong Kong. A tube pushing 50 TB a month pays $250 on the volume network.

bunny.net is not free beyond the 14-day trial: the $1 monthly minimum applies even to an account that only uses the free DNS. There are no request fees. A monthly bandwidth cap can be set on the account, so a traffic spike or a leaked hotlink cannot run up an open-ended bill, and regions can be switched off one by one.

Bunny Stream for paysites and tubes

Bunny Stream encodes video for free, includes the player, and charges only for storage from $0.01 per GB and delivery from $0.005 per GB. Files can be replicated across one to eight storage regions, each adding to the storage cost. A 300 GB library with 50 GB of monthly views in one region comes to $4.50 a month on the standard tier or $3.25 on the volume tier.

Prepaid, non-refundable, no uptime guarantee

All bunny.net payments are made in advance and none are refundable. Prices can change at bunny.net's discretion, and customers are expected to check the terms for updates themselves. An account can be terminated without notice and its data deleted with no option to restore.

The 99.995% monthly uptime figure is an aim, followed by a statement that uninterrupted service is not guaranteed, and support outside business hours is not promised unless stated. Keep a copy of your video library somewhere else.

Abuse handling is gentler than the contract. After validating a report, bunny.net forwards it to the customer and only disables access if nothing is done or the customer reoffends.

Is bunny.net reliable?

bunny.net is run by BunnyWay d.o.o. in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and has operated since 2014. It aims for 99.995% uptime without guaranteeing it, as covered above. Its own figures vary by page: 77 or 82 countries, 85,000 or 100,000+ customers, 200 or 250 Tbps of capacity.

Weigh its G2 score with care: bunny.net gives $15 in account credits for each English review posted on G2 and verified by screenshot, whether good or bad.

  • Free encoding and player on Bunny Stream.
  • A configurable bandwidth cap against bill shock.
  • Crypto accepted alongside card and PayPal.

Limitations

  • No refunds, everything prepaid.
  • Termination without notice, data deleted.
  • All 50 US states' laws apply to your content.
  • Live streaming needs approval.
  • Higher rates for Asian, South American and African audiences on the standard network.

bunny.net vs Advanced Hosting for video delivery

Advanced Hosting charges $3.80 per TB for the first 100 TB of video CDN traffic each month, below the $5 per TB of bunny.net's volume network: $190 against $250 for 50 TB. bunny.net stays the better fit for smaller sites thanks to its $1 minimum, free encoding and built-in player, and Advanced Hosting's policy bans incest content, which bunny.net's does not.
