TMDHosting review: managed hosting with 15-minute support

tmdhosting.com

TMDHosting is a fully managed web host based in Orlando, Florida, and running since 2007. Shared cPanel hosting costs $11.90 a month, or $9.52 when three years are paid upfront, a Linux VPS $69 a month and a dedicated server $199.99. Support promises a reply within 15 minutes, and technicians migrate sites for free.

Our verdict on TMDHosting

TMDHosting suits an adult blog, review site or small store whose owner wants someone else to run the server. You pay for the hands-on management: technicians move the site over, patch the stack and answer within a quarter of an hour.

Tube sites, upload platforms and anything that transcodes video around the clock should look elsewhere. File storage and file sharing are banned, cron jobs cannot run more often than every thirty minutes, and a webmaster who manages a server alone gets a much cheaper VPS from an unmanaged host.

TMDHosting pricing after the first term

TMDHosting discounts apply to the first billing term only, so the monthly price is the one to budget for. Shared and dedicated plans take up to 20% off for a three-year prepayment.

PlanPaid monthlyPaid for 3 years
Linux shared Starter, 1 site, 50 GB, no backups$11.90$9.52
Linux shared Business, unlimited sites, 100 GB$15.90$12.72
Linux shared Enterprise, unlimited storage$23.90$19.12
WordPress Starter$12.49$9.99
Windows shared Starter, Plesk$14.90$11.92
Dedicated Starter, 8 cores, 8 GB, 250 GB SSD$199.99$159.99

The two Starter plans, Linux and WordPress, come without backups. Business keeps thirty copies for $4 more a month, a cheap insurance for a site that lives on search traffic. Every plan includes a manual migration by a technician from your current host.

The dedicated servers come with unmetered bandwidth, a 10 Gbit network and DDoS protection. Storage tops out at 500 GB on the largest published plan, and the free cPanel licence covers a single account: hosting several clients on one box means paying for a larger licence at checkout.

TMDHosting usage rules that limit a site

Two rules shape what a project can run. No file sharing, storage or peer-to-peer activity is allowed, legal or not, which rules out upload sites and download mirrors. Cron jobs need an interval of more than thirty minutes, so thumbnail generation and feed imports have to be triggered by the application instead.

The TMDHosting VPS and where servers really are

The managed Linux VPS starts at $69 a month for 2 AMD EPYC cores, 4 GB of RAM and 100 GB of NVMe storage, with cPanel, CloudLinux, daily backups and a dedicated IP. Paying a year upfront brings it to $690, or $57.50 a month. The largest plan has 64 cores and 256 GB for $2,199 a month.

The home page advertises the same range “from $49.99”, struck through from $62.49. Neither figure exists at checkout. Bandwidth is advertised two ways too: 1 TB a month on the 4 GB plan, rising to 8 TB, then unlimited once you reach checkout. Get the real cap in writing before you serve heavy galleries from a VPS.

Every TMDHosting order form offers the same eight locations: Dallas, Toronto, Mexico, London, Frankfurt, Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney. Mumbai serves Indian traffic, and Dallas or Toronto most North American audiences. The product pages also show Chicago, Amsterdam, Johannesburg, Santiago and Tokyo, none of which can be selected when you buy. For a site aimed at Brazil, the nearest option is Mexico.

Root-level work goes through SSH, which is only enabled after an extra verification and from a static IP address sent to support. A webmaster on a home connection with a changing IP needs a fixed jump host first.

TMDHosting refunds, uptime credits and support

The 30-day money-back guarantee excludes servers and domains, can be used only once and covers the first term only. Dedicated server cards still display it, so a three-year dedicated order of $5,759.71 should be treated as non-refundable.

Uptime credits are narrow. A customer must have been with TMDHosting for at least twelve months, the server must have been down more than 0.1% of a twelve-month period, and the claim must arrive within thirty days after that period ends. DDoS attacks, connectivity problems and power outages are excluded. The credit is prorated on the hours lost.

Support is the strong point: a guaranteed reply within 15 minutes, around the clock, by ticket, live chat or Slack, plus a US toll-free number.

TMDHosting strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Replies guaranteed within 15 minutes, including over Slack.
  • Fully managed on every plan, migration included.
  • Monthly VPS billing, with no multi-year lock-in.
  • Unmetered dedicated servers on a 10 Gbit network.

Limitations

  • Adult sites need explicit approval from the host before going live.
  • No file storage or sharing, and cron jobs limited to one run per thirty minutes.
  • A $49.99 VPS price that cannot be ordered, and two different bandwidth statements.
  • Five advertised cities missing from the order form.
  • No refunds on servers and no backups on Starter plans.
  • Uptime credits that exclude DDoS attacks and need a year of tenure.

TMDHosting vs Host4Porn for a US-run adult site

Host4Porn is built for adult sites. Its VPS starts at $14.50 a month with 6 TB of transfer, against $69 at TMDHosting, but the control panel costs extra and refunds are limited to 24 hours. A webmaster comfortable on the command line saves money with Host4Porn. One who wants the host to run the server has more support at TMDHosting.
