Kamatera review: $4 cloud servers in 21 data centers

kamatera.com

Kamatera rents build-your-own cloud servers from 21 data centers, starting at $4 a month for 1 vCPU, 1 GB of RAM, 20 GB of NVMe and 5 TB of traffic. A 30-day trial covers up to $100 of services.

Our take on Kamatera

Kamatera suits an adult webmaster who can run a Linux server and wants it close to the audience, in one of nine North American cities or in Europe and Asia, billed by the month or the hour. Traffic beyond the allowance is billed per gigabyte rather than cutting the server.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who wants a control panel out of the box.

Kamatera pricing

Kamatera's Basic server costs $4 a month for 1 vCPU at 2,667 MHz, 1 GB of RAM, 20 GB of NVMe and 5 TB of traffic. Two preset servers follow:

  • Standard, $25 a month: 2 vCPUs, 2 GB.
  • Pro, $39 a month: 2 vCPUs, 4 GB.

Everything else is set with sliders, from CPU type to RAM, disk and OS, billed monthly or hourly with no minimum term. Servers come without a control panel. Basic monitoring is free, and managed support costs $50 a month (Pro) or $150 (Premium).

How Kamatera bills traffic

Monthly servers pick either 5 TB of metered traffic or an unmetered 50 Mbps line. Beyond 5 TB, extra traffic costs $0.01 per GB, or $10 per TB. Hourly servers have no allowance after the trial: all traffic is billed at $0.01 per GB.

Kamatera data center locations

Kamatera has 21 data centers: Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, New York and Toronto in North America, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Stockholm and Bucharest in Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Sydney, plus Tel Aviv. That covers US visitors from both coasts and puts Singapore and Tokyo within reach of an Asian audience.

Kamatera's 30-day free trial

The trial lasts 30 days, covers up to $100 of services and requires a valid credit card. If 3D Secure verification fails, a prepaid account can start with a $10 deposit, refunded if the account is closed during the trial. Billing then becomes automatic and monthly. The pricing page promises 99.95% uptime, while the SLA commits to 99.9%, with a credit if Kamatera misses it.

Is Kamatera legit?

Kamatera is an established host: The OMC Group has sold cloud services since 1995 and launched the Kamatera brand in 1996, and the service holds a 4.2 out of 5 TrustScore on Trustpilot from 389 reviews. The complaints that surface in search are about support, not billing fraud. A LowEndTalk thread from May 2026 describes unexplained forced reboots on a Windows VPS and a support team that declined to share backend logs. Servers are unmanaged unless you pay for the $50 or $150 plans, so plan your own monitoring and backups.

Kamatera strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Servers from $4, monthly or hourly.
  • 21 data centers across four continents.
  • Overage billed, never a shutdown.
  • 30-day trial worth up to $100.

Limitations

  • Policy bans "obscene" content without defining it, so get written confirmation from sales before launching an explicit site.
  • No control panel included.
  • Credit card required for the trial.
  • Hourly servers pay for all traffic after the trial.

Kamatera vs IO Zoom

IO Zoom sells VPS plans from $10 a month with 2 GB and 2 TB, but suspends accounts that exceed their traffic. Kamatera starts at $4 with 1 GB and 5 TB, bills overage, and covers far more locations.
