IO Zoom review: VPS from $10, with a hard traffic cap

iozoom.com

IO Zoom is a Virginia host founded in 2015 and owned by Railhead, Inc. Its VPS plans start at $10 a month for 2 GB of RAM and 2 TB of transfer, and it automatically suspends accounts that exceed their bandwidth.

Our take on IO Zoom

IO Zoom works for a mid-sized adult blog, directory or gallery that wants a month-to-month Linux VPS in the US or London and can forecast its traffic. Every VPS plan includes root access and DDoS filtering.

It is risky for a tube: included transfer runs from 2 to 12 TB, and going over suspends the account instead of billing overage. VPS refunds last only seven days.

IO Zoom Linux VPS pricing

IO Zoom's Linux VPS starts at $10 a month for 2 GB of RAM, 20 GB of SSD and 2 TB of transfer, or $20 with server management. Plans run in nine sizes up to 64 GB, billed month to month:

  • 4 GB, 40 GB, 4 TB: $18 self-managed, $35 managed.
  • 8 GB, 80 GB, 6 TB: $35 or $55.
  • 16 GB, 160 GB, 8 TB: $65 or $100.
  • 64 GB, 640 GB, 12 TB: $250 or $295.

Every plan includes 10 Gbps DDoS filtering. Linux VPS locations are Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, New Jersey and London, and Windows VPS adds Frankfurt.

What happens when you exceed your bandwidth

IO Zoom's terms say an account that exceeds its monthly bandwidth allowance is automatically suspended. Extra transfer costs $15 a month per 1,000 GB and has to be added through sales in advance. A video-heavy site should size its plan before launch.

IO Zoom dedicated servers

Three managed dedicated servers are listed: a Xeon E3-1230v3 at $109 a month, an E5-1620v2 at $144 and a dual E5-2620v3 at $199, each with 256 GB of SSD, 30 TB of transfer and ports up to 10 Gbps.

IO Zoom refunds, late payments and uptime

IO Zoom refunds a VPS within 7 days and shared hosting within 30 days, once per customer, and never refunds Bitcoin or other crypto payments. Managed cloud and dedicated servers are excluded, and the guarantee is void if the service used more than 100 GB of bandwidth or was hit by a DDoS attack during the period.

Service is interrupted at three days past due, and accounts sent to collections carry a $50 to $150 fee. The network uptime guarantee is 100% per month, with credits from 5% at 99.9% up to 100% at 98.9% or below, claimed between the 1st and 7th of the following month. Dedicated servers and add-ons are excluded.
