Web Host Pro review: shared cPanel hosting in Los Angeles

webhostpro.com

Web Host Pro is an independent Los Angeles host that has been in business since 2001. Its shared cPanel plans cost $5 a month or $3.50 a month on an annual term, with refunds within 45 days.

Our verdict on Web Host Pro

Web Host Pro is a good fit for a small, legal adult site in the US, such as a model's site, a blog or a directory, that wants plain cPanel hosting.

It is a weaker choice for a tube or a busy video site. VPS plans ship without a control panel, cPanel costs extra, and the entry dedicated server has a 250 Mbps port.

Web Host Pro shared hosting prices

Web Host Pro shared hosting starts at $5 a month, or $3.50 a month when you pay for a year. All three plans run cPanel on LiteSpeed with NVMe storage, free SSL, Softaculous and remote MySQL access.

  • cPanel Solo: 2 sites, 10 GB NVMe, 8 GB RAM, $5 monthly or $3.50 a month annually.
  • cPanel Pro: 11 sites, 50 GB NVMe, 8 GB RAM, $10 monthly or $7.50 annually.
  • cPanel Advanced: 30 sites, 200 GB NVMe, 20 GB RAM and a free dedicated IP, $25 monthly or $18.75 annually.

A dedicated IP costs $3 a month on Solo and Pro. Shared accounts get two automatic backups a week, which skip most email data and are meant for server failures, so keep your own copies. Mass mailing is banned, and Web Host Pro suggests a third-party sender above 1,000 emails a day.

The 45-day money-back guarantee and its limits

Shared and reseller plans come with a no-questions-asked full refund within 45 days of activation. cPanel licenses, domain registrations and advanced SSL certificates are not refundable, and custom work is deducted at an hourly rate. There is no free trial on shared hosting.

For VPS and dedicated servers, Web Host Pro gives conflicting windows: 45 days for VPS and 10 days for dedicated in one place, 15 days for both in another. Get the number confirmed in a ticket before you order. An account suspended for its content or for breaking the usage rules is never refunded, whenever it happens.

Web Host Pro VPS and dedicated servers

The entry KVM VPS costs $35 monthly or $30 a month on an annual plan, with 2 cores, 8 GB of RAM, 200 GB of storage and 5 TB of bandwidth. It comes without a control panel: cPanel adds $18 a month for one account, DirectAdmin $5 for two, and LiteSpeed $20 for servers with up to 8 GB of RAM.

The entry dedicated server is managed under cPanel and costs $95 monthly or $75 a month annually for 4 Xeon 6 cores, 12 GB of RAM and a 250 Mbps port. A 400 Mbps port starts at $190. Neither VPS nor dedicated plans include backups by default, though they can be enabled on request.

Strengths and limitations of Web Host Pro

Strengths

  • A long refund window on shared hosting.
  • cPanel, LiteSpeed and NVMe from the cheapest plan.
  • In business since 2001.

Limitations

  • No refund after a content suspension.
  • A rating meta tag requested on adult sites, with suspension for one labeled “safe for kids”.
  • Unclear refund windows on VPS and dedicated.
  • Control panel extra on VPS plans.
  • One data center, in Los Angeles.

Web Host Pro vs Hostwinds

Hostwinds has data centers in Seattle, Dallas and Amsterdam, and rents an unmanaged Linux VPS from $4.99 a month. Its refunds must be requested within 72 hours of payment. Web Host Pro gives far more time to change your mind and suits cPanel shared hosting. Hostwinds is cheaper for a VPS you manage yourself.
