DreamHost review: renewal prices and a 40,000-visitor cap

dreamhost.com

DreamHost is a California host founded in 1997 that shows its renewal price right under the sale price. Shared hosting costs $2.89 a month for the first year and $10.99 after that, and VPS plans start at $8.99 for three months.

Our take on DreamHost

DreamHost is a straightforward choice for a legal adult blog, review site or directory with a US audience: no bandwidth bill, and the renewal price in plain sight.

A tube or any site past 40,000 monthly visitors should skip shared hosting and start on a VPS. DreamHost's dedicated servers are all in the US, which suits American traffic and is a weaker fit for a European one.

What the DreamHost acceptable use policy bans

The acceptable use policy bans crypto mining and spam, and an account whose IP lands on an abuse blacklist is in violation even if the listing was not its owner's doing.

Unmetered bandwidth, capped visitors

DreamHost does not meter network transfer on any plan and charges no overage fees for standard web traffic. Shared and DreamPress plans are limited instead by a monthly threshold of 40,000 unique visitors, measured by DreamHost. Past it, you are asked to move up a plan.

That is about 1,300 visitors a day: plenty for a review site, tight for a growing tube. VPS and dedicated plans carry no visitor threshold.

DreamHost pricing, first year and renewal

  • Web Hosting Launch: $2.89 a month the first year, then $10.99, for 25 sites and 25 GB of NVMe.
  • DreamPress 1 managed WordPress: $14.99, then $19.99, for one site and 15 GB.
  • Managed VPS Business: $13.75, then $31.99, for 2 cores, 2 GB of RAM and 60 GB.

Over three years, Web Hosting Launch comes to $298.44: $34.68 the first year and $131.88 for each of the next two. The same figures appear in euros and pounds when you switch currency, with no conversion. Shared plans include daily backups, free SSL and a free domain for the first year, and tax is added at checkout.

DreamHost VPS and dedicated servers

The Stack VPS range runs on AMD EPYC with NVMe storage, KVM, Docker, full root access and DDoS protection. The discount lasts three months only:

PlanFirst 3 monthsThenResources
Stack 4$8.99$15.992 vCPU, 4 GB, 75 GB
Stack 8$14.99$21.992 vCPU, 8 GB, 150 GB
Stack 16$22.99$34.994 vCPU, 16 GB, 250 GB
Stack 32$45.99$59.998 vCPU, 32 GB, 450 GB

Dedicated servers are fully managed and sit on the US East and West coasts, with a CDN of more than 100 locations. The 6-core Standard costs $119.99 a month the first year, then $165, and the 12-core Enhanced, with up to 128 GB of RAM, costs $229. Storage runs from 480 GB to 1,920 GB of SSD in RAID 1, with no extra control panel fees.

DreamHost refunds, cancellation and uptime

DreamHost's 30-day money-back guarantee covers website hosting only: email, dedicated servers, VPS, Remixer and DreamCompute are excluded. Accounts disabled for policy violations get nothing back. Some 2026 reviews still quote a 97-day guarantee, but the plan pages and terms now say 30 days.

Either side can end the contract without cause on 14 days' written notice. DreamHost guarantees 100% uptime and pays credits claimed by ticket within 14 days of an outage. Support runs 24/7 by email and web chat, with no phone line advertised, and DreamHost holds 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 8,200 reviews. DreamHost can suspend an account without refund if the owner ignores a request to confirm account details for more than 15 days, so keep the contact address monitored.
