Veriff review: three-tier age assurance for the UK and US

veriff.com

Veriff is an Estonian identity verification company founded in Tallinn in 2015. Its age assurance runs database checks, then a selfie age estimate, then an ID, and targets the UK Online Safety Act and US state laws. Self-serve ID plans cost $0.80 to $1.89 per verification.

Our verdict on Veriff

Veriff suits a dating, creator or adult platform that needs UK and US age assurance from an established identity vendor, with one flow that starts invisible and steps up only when needed. Dating apps such as Bumble and Feeld appear among its clients, and its UK products are certified under the government’s digital identity framework.

The catch for adult sites is price transparency: the self-serve plans cover ID verification, while selfie age estimation, the tier most visitors would pass on, is sold separately on quote.

Veriff, the Online Safety Act and US state laws

Veriff positions its age assurance for the UK Online Safety Act, Ofcom’s highly effective age assurance standard and US state mandates, with auditable records of each check. Some of its products are certified under the UK Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework, and Germany’s KJM approved its age verification in July 2021.

How Veriff’s three age assurance tiers work

  1. Database check: a background lookup with no action from the visitor, using sources in the US, UK, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Australia and more.
  2. Selfie age estimation, with no document. The site receives an estimated age and an estimated gender.
  3. ID document from more than 12,500 types, with the face matched to the selfie.

Veriff also offers age validation, which only answers whether the visitor is above the threshold. If a visitor located in the US is estimated to be under 13, the session is deleted.

How much does Veriff cost?

Veriff’s self-serve plans are Essential at $0.80 per verification with a $49 monthly minimum, Plus at $1.39 with $99, and Premium at $1.89 with $209. The 15-day trial gives access to Premium with no credit card. Extended two-year data retention adds $0.30 per verification.

Age estimation and age validation are not part of these plans. They need a separate integration and a quote, so the cost of a selfie-first age gate is not public.

How long Veriff keeps selfies and IDs

Session data stays accessible for 3 months on Essential and 6 months on Plus and Premium. Veriff’s retention schedule then keeps data in archive for up to 3 years, or until the client leaves Veriff if sooner, including photos, videos, results and biometric face embeddings. Veriff does not send a notice before deletion. It holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II and Cyber Essentials.

The company behind Veriff

Veriff OÜ was registered in Tallinn, Estonia, on 20 October 2015, passed 500 employees in 2022 and supports around 50 languages in its flows. Integration runs through the API, web, iOS, Android, React Native and Flutter SDKs, or a hosted no-code page. In December 2025, Veriff told US carrier Total Wireless that an unauthorized party had taken images of some customers’ government IDs from Veriff’s systems, in some cases with postal addresses and dates of birth.
