tarteaucitron.js review: one licence for every site you run

tarteaucitron.io

tarteaucitron.js is an open-source consent manager under the MIT license, built in France by Amauri Champeaux since 2014. It blocks more than 220 services until the visitor chooses and ships in 36 languages. The Pro licence covers unlimited sites and traffic for €25 a month up to €690 for life, excluding VAT.

Our verdict on tarteaucitron.js

tarteaucitron.js is a strong pick for an operator running a network of adult sites, because one Pro licence covers every site with no traffic cap, and a lifetime licence exists. The free version works for anyone comfortable declaring services in code.

It keeps no consent records and skips IAB TCF on purpose. A site that must prove consent, or sells programmatic ads in Europe, needs another tool.

What tarteaucitron.io Pro costs

TermPrice, excl. VAT
1 month€25
1 year€190
3 years€490
Lifetime€690

Every Pro term covers all your sites with unlimited traffic, and none renews automatically. The trial lasts seven days with no card. Pro detects services automatically, including those loaded through Google Tag Manager, adds an online dashboard with 50+ settings and shows consent rates by site and service, exportable to CSV.

Adding ExoClick or TrafficJunky as custom services

The services file in the code lists 247 entries, from Google Analytics to YouTube and Matomo, and none is an adult ad network. ExoClick, TrafficJunky or JuicyAds go in as custom services using their tag’s markup, and the author takes requests for new services. Consent modes are handled for Google, Bing and Piano Analytics.

No consent log and no IAB TCF, by design

Amauri Champeaux states that tarteaucitron does not store a consent registry because he does not want to collect data about visitors, and that it does not implement IAB TCF, whose model he describes as fee-based and overly complex. The project ships often: version 1.35 came out in September 2026, the repository has more than 1,000 GitHub stars, and tarteaucitron.io claims more than 80,000 sites. GitHub lists eight security advisories for the script since 2023, seven rated medium and one low, all fixed by version 1.33.0: a self-hosted copy older than that needs updating.

tarteaucitron.js or Silktide Consent Manager

Silktide Consent Manager is free and drives Google Consent Mode v2 automatically, but blocks only scripts you move into its config and ships no translations. tarteaucitron.js recognizes 220+ services and arrives in 36 languages. For a multilingual site network, tarteaucitron.js does more of the work.
