What to do if Google flags pages as explicit by mistake
First check whether SafeSearch filters a few pages or your whole site, then fix the common mistakes Google lists. After fixing, wait at least two to three months before requesting a review, because that is how long the classifiers can take to reprocess your content. Search Console is where you watch the effect, through clicks and impressions.
How the SafeSearch filtering tab works
Inside the Removals tool, the SafeSearch Filtering tab shows the history of requests to label URLs on your site as adult material. A page classed as explicit drops out of results when SafeSearch is on and loses eligibility for rich results and video previews. The same tool can hide a URL from results for about six months, after which it can return if the page still exists.
Google's rules for explicit sites
- Let Googlebot crawl without triggering the age gate, after verifying the requests really come from Google.
- Group explicit pages on a separate domain or subdomain if you mix explicit and non-explicit content.
- Mark explicit pages with the rating meta tag or HTTP header set to adult.
- Allow Google to fetch your video files.
Search Console data limits
Search Console is free, verified by HTML file, meta tag, DNS record, Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager. Report tables and exports are truncated to 1,000 representative rows, enough for a small site but not for a tube with thousands of pages. The BigQuery bulk export gives complete data, billed through Google Cloud.
