GDPR Cookie Compliance review: local data, no traffic caps

mooveagency.com

GDPR Cookie Compliance is a free WordPress plugin from Moove Agency in London, active on more than 300,000 sites. It keeps visitor choices on your own server and injects the scripts you give it only after consent. Premium licences run from £59 to £499 a year, with no limit on page views.

Our verdict on GDPR Cookie Compliance

GDPR Cookie Compliance suits a high-traffic adult WordPress site with a short list of third-party tags that can live inside the plugin. Licences never count visits, and consent data never leaves your server.

It only blocks what you paste into it. An ad tag left in the theme or added by another plugin still fires before consent, so it needs a careful tag audit first.

Moove states that every licence covers unlimited page views and user sessions, on high-traffic sites with no usage restrictions. A purchase includes a year of updates, and refunds are available within 14 days. Prices are in pounds sterling only. On WordPress.org the free plugin averages 4.6 out of 5 from 205 ratings, ten of them one-star.

Geo-targeting for the EU, California or Canada

The free plugin shows one banner to everyone. Premium can show it only to visitors from the European Union or chosen places such as Canada or California, so a US paysite can skip the banner for most American traffic. Premium also adds a consent log in your database with date, IP address, accepted cookies and the email of logged-in members, a full-screen cookie wall, iframe blocking for embeds like YouTube, and renewed consent after a policy change.

How ExoClick or Google Analytics tags get blocked

You paste each tag into the plugin’s fields for the head, body or footer, and it inserts them only once the visitor accepts that category. Direct integrations cover Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Meta Pixel and GTM4WP, with Google Consent Mode v2 and the WP Consent API. There is no cookie scanner and no IAB TCF. The banner offers Accept, Reject, Close and Settings buttons in an order you choose, and the plugin ships in 22 languages.

GDPR Cookie Compliance strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • No traffic limits on any licence.
  • Consent data stays local.
  • Consent Mode v2 in the free plugin.

Limitations

  • Only pasted scripts are blocked.
  • Consent log and geo-targeting need Premium.
  • No scanner and no IAB TCF.

Not the same plugin as Cookie Compliance for WordPress

Moove’s plugin lives at gdpr-cookie-compliance on WordPress.org. Cookie Compliance for WordPress is Hu-manity’s plugin, formerly Cookie Notice: it stores consent on Hu-manity’s servers and stops free blocking after 1,000 visits a month. For a busy tube, Moove’s flat licence avoids that cap.
