GFY review: ranks, rules and the busiest adult boards

gfy.com

GFY, GoFuckYourself.com, is the English-language adult webmaster forum, online since 2000. It has 206,254 members, 1,268,579 topics and 19.4 million posts, guests can read it, and registration is free. Its markets for links, content and services get new posts every day.

Our verdict on GFY

GFY is where an adult webmaster goes to buy links or content, hire a freelancer, trade traffic or check the word on a program. The buying and selling boards move daily, and twenty-five years of threads are open to guests.

Newcomers wait: posts are moderated until the tenth, and links are blocked until the thirtieth. The main board mixes business with everything else.

How GFY member ranks work

New GFY accounts start as Registered Users: their posts go to moderation, they cannot send private messages and some boards stay hidden. Ten posts, or a request to staff, make you a Confirmed User. Posting a URL takes 30 posts whatever your rank. Green, Red and Blue Light ranks follow at 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000 posts, or for high-value contributions, with business threads counting most and politics not at all.

Buying and selling on GFY

Four boards carry the trading. Sell and Buy, with 100,174 topics, handles links, domains, traffic, designs and gallery spots. Traffic Trades and Gallery Requests holds 49,429 topics, Jobs and Services 10,655 for video editing, writing, encoding and programming, and the Content Market 5,237. Prices are often posted in the open, such as sidebar links on a blog at $50 a month or $500 a year.

Sell and Buy allows two threads per week per seller, one per type of item, one bump a week, and all domains in a single thread, with content sales sent to the Content Market. GFY warns buyers that it is not responsible for bad deals. Program news from non-advertisers belongs in Announcements, since program announcements on the main board are reserved for GFY advertisers.

What gets you banned on GFY

Signature or link spam earns a warning, then a ban. Calling someone a scammer without posting proof alongside, links to illegal sites, death threats, racial slurs and a second account used to dodge a ban all lead to bans. Signatures are capped at a 120 × 60 button and three lines of text, except for top-banner sponsors, and WHOIS data counts as public. The terms of service are still the vBulletin template, which bans sexually oriented posts on an adult forum, so the forum rules are what apply in practice.

GFY strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • 19.4 million posts open to guests.
  • Daily trading boards for links, content and jobs.
  • Free.
  • Rules against unproven scam accusations.

Limitations

  • Ten posts to leave moderation, thirty to post a link.
  • No protection on deals.
  • Template terms and no operator address.

GFY vs WJunction for selling a site

WJunction requires proof of ownership and traffic for each sale, with 20,300 marketplace topics. GFY has 100,174 in Sell and Buy and an all-adult crowd, but its rules ask for no proof.
