FV Player review: VAST ads at $150 a year per domain

Our verdict on FV Player

FV Player suits a WordPress adult site that sells video ads on one or two domains and wants a player with many hosting integrations. On a network of sites, the yearly VAST licence per domain adds up fast.

The FV Player VAST add-on

FV Player VAST is sold by the year: $150 for one domain, $290 for two, $650 for five and $2,200 for twenty. A bundle with FV Player Pro costs $199 for one year, down from $225, with support and automatic updates. The add-on reads VAST 2 and 3, VMAP 1.0.1, VPAID 2, and VPAID 1 with Flash. Ads play before the video or at a chosen second during it, with a separate VAST tag for each video if needed, and Google Analytics tracks them.

Foliovision publishes a guide for ExoClick ads. It needs the VAST add-on and a free ExoClick publisher account. Neither the licence nor the terms of service mention adult content.

FV Player Pro and the free edition

The free edition is under the GPL, carries the FV Player logo and allows commercial use. It plays MP4, HLS, YouTube, Bunny Stream and Amazon S3. Pro costs $75 for one domain as a one-off purchase, a sale price on a $95 list price, with one year of updates and support. It removes the logo and adds Vimeo, Odysee, encrypted HLS and a download button. Bug reports get free help on the forum, while installation help is a paid support incident.
