BlueCheck review: phone and address age checks for paysites

bluecheck.me

BlueCheck is an Austin, Texas age verification company founded in 2014. It confirms a US member’s age from their address, phone number or last four SSN digits without a camera, charges $0.25 to $0.50 per successful check and plugs into the NATS join page.

Our verdict on BlueCheck

BlueCheck suits a NATS paysite with mostly US members that wants age checks without selfies: most members clear on data they already enter, for a quarter to half a dollar each. Photo ID with human review catches the rest.

Get the price and photo retention terms in writing first. BlueCheck’s pricing page and its billing docs disagree on whether there is a monthly fee, and its policies disagree on whether ID photos are kept.

How BlueCheck verifies age for US members

For a US visitor, BlueCheck can confirm age from data records in three ways, none of which needs a camera.

  • Name and address: checked instantly against records, with a match rate BlueCheck puts above 96%. Also available in the UK.
  • Phone number: a six-digit SMS code proves the visitor holds the phone, then BlueCheck looks up the age tied to the number. US numbers only. BlueCheck calls this the common choice in the adult space.
  • Last four SSN digits: with name and date of birth, for higher-value sign-ups.

When records cannot confirm age, the site offers a photo ID with a selfie of the visitor holding it. Blurry or unusual IDs go to trained human reviewers instead of an automatic rejection. Mexico has its own CURP check. Everywhere else, the site falls back on photo ID. BlueCheck describes the whole as a three-tier cascade checked against up to 26 databases.

How much does BlueCheck cost?

BlueCheck’s pricing page quotes $0.50 down to $0.25 per check depending on volume, with no platform fee and no minimum. Its billing documentation, updated on 12 November 2025, adds a $49 monthly API subscription and lists per-method prices.

MethodPrice in the docs
Address, SSN, CURP or phone match$0.25 per successful check
SMS code sent$0.01
Photo ID$0.30 once images are submitted

Record checks with no match are free, but a photo ID is billed on submission even if it fails. Shopify plans run from $25 a month for 25 checks to $250 for 500, with a 14-day trial. A card on file is required before an API token can be created.

Adding BlueCheck to a NATS join page

BlueCheck’s documentation has a NATS installation guide: register an API account, add a payment method, generate an integration token, then enter it in the Surfer section of the NATS admin configuration. The check then runs on the join page before member access opens.

Outside NATS, the REST API takes one POST request from any stack, with an age requirement the site sets, such as 18 or 21. Store modules cover Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and PrestaShop. The Shopify app, live since February 2023, has 10 reviews: nine five-star ones praising setup and support, and one one-star review from a vape shop in July 2025. It says a tax app re-triggered checks so one order was billed several times, and that support stopped answering. BlueCheck disputes this in its reply.

What BlueCheck keeps from ID checks

BlueCheck’s compliance page says personal data is purged after each check, and that SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits are in progress. Its biometric policy, effective since 11 May 2021, says BlueCheck may keep copies of submitted photos and use them to train its automated verification. The privacy policy, last reviewed in October 2023, allows personal data to be kept for an unspecified period, except the last four SSN digits.

For an adult site, those are its members’ ID photos. BlueCheck says it sends its data processing agreement, subprocessor list and retention schedule within one business day of a request.

Is BlueCheck a legitimate service?

BlueCheck, Inc. is a Delaware corporation based in Austin, Texas, founded in 2014, employee-owned and run by CEO Alex Zeig, who sits on the board of the Age Verification Providers Association. It claims tens of millions of checks since 2014, a team of more than 25 and 24/7 live support for merchants and their customers.

BlueCheck strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Camera-free checks for US members by address, phone or SSN.
  • A NATS guide and store plugins.
  • Public prices, with no charge for unmatched record checks.
  • Human review of hard-to-read IDs.

Limitations

  • Photo ID only outside the US, UK and Mexico.
  • Conflicting pricing, with or without a $49 monthly fee.
  • ID photos may be kept for training, per the biometric policy.
  • No facial age estimation, and audits still in progress.

BlueCheck alternatives: Veratad and AgeVerif

Veratad also checks US identity data and adds a selfie-based age estimate, with thresholds set by location. AgeVerif covers every US state with selfie, email, card and PayPal checks, and charges sites nothing for most of them.
