What Storj storage costs
Standard costs $7 per TB stored each month, and every TB of egress costs the same. Advanced keeps data in US data centers with SOC 2 Type 2 certification and costs $10 per TB stored. Every account pays at least $5 a month. Data deleted within 30 days is billed for a full month, and objects under 50 KB count as 50 KB. The trial gives 25 GB with no card, plus two Object Mount licences, the tool that mounts the bucket as a local drive. Storj takes cards (not prepaid), Google Pay, Apple Pay, bank accounts and USDC on Ethereum, which waives the monthly minimum.
Storj’s Chapter 11 restructuring
Storj Labs filed for Chapter 11 in the Northern District of West Virginia, case 5:26-bk-00512, to settle legacy liabilities. The company says it keeps operating in the ordinary course and expects no service interruption. Its FAQ answers “No” to whether Storj is shutting down, and parent company Inveniam backs the reorganization. Storj promised to publish milestones as they are set, but its blog shows nothing new since the announcement.
Storj terms worth reading
Storj owes at most the lesser of $50 and the fees paid over the previous twelve months. An account can be suspended without notice after a single report of a violation, for as long as Storj decides. The terms warn that stored data is not guaranteed to be retrievable and that customers must keep their own backups. Without Storj Managed Encryption, a lost key means unreadable files. Storj may also name the customer and show its logo in marketing, which an adult site will want to negotiate. Object Lock in compliance mode blocks any deletion until retention ends, a useful defence against ransomware.
Storj strengths and limitations

- Distributed, encrypted data.
- Object Lock against deletion.
- Free trial with no card.
Limitations
- Paid egress at the storage rate.
- Chapter 11 under way.

- Eight requirements to certify under contract for an adult site.
Storj compared with Sharktech S3 storage
Sharktech sells S3 storage at $4.90 per TB, with 1 TB of egress included and $0.90 per TB after that. Storj costs more, especially for egress, but spreads each file across a global network and encrypts it client-side.
