NerdyCMS review: a free CMS tied to one payment processor

nerdycms.com

NerdyCMS gives creators a free, self-branded video subscription site with live streaming, tips and AI tools. The catch is billing: every sale must go through Aquete, a processor that publishes no fees or payout terms.

Our verdict on NerdyCMS

NerdyCMS looks like a free way for an adult creator to run a paysite on their own domain, with no monthly fee and no platform cut. What it really costs depends on Aquete, the mandatory processor, and Aquete publishes nothing about rates, reserves or payout timing.

Aquete's website is a "Coming Soon" page and its merchant sign-up returns a database error. Get Aquete's terms in writing before you build anything.

How billing through Aquete works

The FAQ is blunt: "Aquete is our exclusive payment processor", and using another one breaks the user agreement. You fill in Aquete's form, sign its agreement, then paste an API key and embed token into your NerdyCMS admin panel. Payouts follow Aquete's schedule, which NerdyCMS does not spell out. The home page still describes built-in billing with "No third-party setup needed".

Aquete.com shows "This site is currently under construction", and the merchant sign-up page returns a database connection error. For an adult paysite, relying on one processor with no published pricing is the biggest risk in this setup.

What the platform includes

Video up to 4K with casting to TV, live streaming with chat and simulcast to YouTube or Twitch, email and SMS to subscribers, Dropbox sync, a visual editor, a blog and automatic monthly updates. AI tools build trailers and thumbnails, write descriptions and tags, flag risky uploads and track churn signals. A CDN is recommended rather than required. A "full service" option, by application and with no published price, hands day-to-day management to the NerdyCMS team. There is no age verification or 2257 record-keeping tool, so that work stays with you.

Licensed content for webmasters

A separate page pitches NerdyCMS to webmasters who want a paysite without producing anything, through a library of "legally cleared" licensed videos plus ad zones. There is no catalogue, niche list or licensing price on the page, only an application form.

What the user agreement says

The agreement is now public and names Nerdy Media Inc. You keep ownership of your content, but grant Nerdy Media "a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, and display" it "for the purpose of providing and promoting our services". If your account is terminated, you lose access to its content and data, and no export tool is advertised. The privacy policy lists an address in Beverly Hills.

Strengths and limitations of NerdyCMS

Strengths

  • No monthly fee or platform cut.
  • Live streaming and 4K included.
  • Your own domain.

Limitations

  • One mandatory processor with no pricing.
  • Aquete's site under construction.
  • A broad license over uploaded content.
  • No age verification tool.

NerdyCMS vs PaysiteManager

PaysiteManager takes a quarter of sales after processing fees, but publishes its split and handles billing itself. NerdyCMS takes nothing, at the price of a mandatory processor whose cost is unknown.
