DreamGen review: an AI app for adult fiction writing

dreamgen.com

DreamGen is a Swiss web app for writing stories and roleplay with AI, with no bans beyond illegal content and minors. Users own what they generate. An OpenAI-compatible API serves its Lucid models, but the fair use note forbids bots.

Our verdict on DreamGen

DreamGen suits a webmaster who writes their own erotic stories or character dialogue and wants to publish it on a site with no rights strings attached. To run an automated character on a site, look elsewhere: DreamGen’s API only serves its Lucid models, and its fair use note bans bots.

Which DreamGen tier adds memory

The pricing cards promise more context at each tier, but the FAQ table shows Starter at $7.83 keeps exactly the free account’s memory: 5,000 tokens on most models and 4,096 on the Lucid models. Advanced at $19.35 goes to 8,000 or 15,000 tokens depending on the model, and Pro at $48.30 to between 15,000 and 60,000. The 60,000-token context, above the 30,000 shown on the Pro card, applies to the two Gemma 4 models only.

What Starter adds is credits, 375 a month and 45 a day. Advanced and Pro both give 2,250 a month and 75 a day, and Pro takes 20% off top-ups. Credits do not roll over. Prorated refunds are requested by email and usually processed within two business days.

DreamGen usage limits

DreamGen exposes an OpenAI-compatible API, described on its own Hugging Face page: with a key created in the account, you connect a frontend such as SillyTavern, and it serves only the Lucid model variants. Neither the pricing page nor the docs say which tier includes it. The fair use note on “unlimited” says it is meant for personal, organic use, and lists account sharing or reselling and “using bots or scripts for generation” as abuse. DreamGen describes using its API through a chat frontend like SillyTavern.

What you can do with the output

DreamGen claims no ownership over generated content, which users may use and distribute within intellectual property law, though it gives no promise the output is copyrightable and keeps a license to run and improve the service. Scenarios and characters supplied by DreamGen stay for personal use. The terms ban only two things: content illegal in the US, the EFTA countries or the user’s own country, and sexual content involving minors, fictional ones included. Users must be 18.

DreamGen strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Outputs owned by the user.
  • Two bans, illegal content and minors.
  • Prorated refunds.

Limitations

  • An API limited to Lucid models, bots banned.
  • A Starter tier with free-tier memory.
  • The company name shown as an image, Rozum AG in Zug.

DreamGen versus Infermatic

Infermatic charges a flat fee from $9 a month and opens its API from that first paid tier. DreamGen’s API only serves its own Lucid models.
